Why take this course
In Provinces and Territories that have prescribed, and mandtory, training and licensing in order to obtain a security guard license, these courses are 40 hours in length including 8 hours of First Aid training.
The Federal, Canadian General Standards Board program for Security Officers (CAN/CGSB-133.1-2017) is a 54 hour program. The C.G.S.B. standard allows for minor variance in the content hours to account for student abilities and class sizes. It also recognizes that most guards take courses online these days and not in person resulting in overall class times of less than 54 hours.
The content of this course recognizes the duplication between Provincially mandated content and that included in the CGSB program Once the duplicated parts are removed and a Prior Learning Assessment (P.L.A.) is done to verify learning, the remaining balance of content is delivered as a “Gap” filler to upgrade this certification to the level of C.G.S. B. certified Security Officer.
